Hosting a show

How do I host a show?

- To find out how to start a show, contact us today!

What do I need to go live?

- A webcam, headphones and a decent internet connection.

- 1-2 MB upload speed works best for Yowie. (One way to test your speed is on Speedtest.net)

- To maximize your Yowie experience, publicize your event on facebook/twitter/tumblr/message boards/blogs/etc! The more the merrier!

- Don't hide in the dark! People want to chat with YOU, not your shadow! For optimal lighting, position yourself facing the light to avoid being backlit.

- Get comfortable - you don't want to re-position yourself a lot during your show!

How do I configure my equipment?

Camera

Ask a Question: In the Ask a Question dialog box, press change settings and select the camera that works.

Queued to chat: On your queued video box, right click for PC/control click for Mac, select 'settings' and click on the webcam icon on the far right to modify your camera.

Microphone

Ask a Question: In the Ask a Question dialog box, talk into the mic and make sure the mic levels appear.

How do I get an audience?

Share your show link with friends on Twitter, Facebook and other social networks by tweeting, creating an event, or mass emailing.

How do I enhance my show?

Uploading show cards: To upload a show card, click 'View My Shows' next to your user name in the top right corner. Once you've clicked on the show you want to enhance, press the edit icon. You'll see a box to upload a show card. Make sure your image is 600x360 ppi. The show card will make your show page look professional and fancy.

Uploading and playing videos: To upload a video to your show, click 'View My Shows' next to your user name in the top right corner. Once you've clicked on the show you want to enhance, press the edit icon. You'll see a box to enter your video URL.

How do I play videos during my show?

Uploading URLs from YouTube: During your show, a blue 'Your Media' box is located under your video box. Enter the title and URL of the video you wish to show in the designated fields. Press the 'save' icon, and the video will queue up. Move your cursor over the queued link to reveal a 'play' button. Press Play and your video will pop up in another window.

How do I stop broadcasting?

Click the 'End Broadcast' icon in the top right corner, underneath the view counter.

Will my show be archived?

Yes. Most shows take a little while to archive but will be available on the same live show URL.

How Do I Find Shows?

Check out the Yowie homepage to see upcoming and recent shows. Click the 'Browse' tab at the top of the homepage to sort by category. To get updates on upcoming shows, follow us on Twitter or 'like' us on Facebook!

How Do I Go Live with the Host?

Click the blue 'Ask a Question' button on the showpage. Type your question, check your equipment and get your headphones ready to go live!

What do I need to go live with the Host?

How do I RSVP for a Show?

Click on the green 'Want to Attend?' button on the showpage to receive a reminder email right before the show starts.

Discussion Rooms:

How do I Start a Room?

Click on the orange Create a Room button on the Discussion Homepage. Enter room name, description and topic, and click "Create a Room.’ Click the blue "Go Live Now’ button and choose the correct camera and microphone.

How do I Join a Room?

Find what other people are talking about at the bottom of the Discussion Homepage. Click on a room to join and click "Go Live Now’ to join in!

How do I Play Media?

Use the "Add New Media" search bar to find videos on youtube and Vimeo. Click "+Add" to add to your playlist and "Play" to play automatically for the whole room. To view your playlist, click the orange "My Media" button and hover over a video to press play.

How do I Follow Another User?

Hover over a user's image along the top of the chat room in the "Live Users" bar. The image will expand and reveal a "Follow" button. By clicking this button, you'll be able to find out when the person goes live or creates a chat room.

How do I Invite Friends to My Room?

On the right side of the top grey toolbar in the discussion room, click on the facebook and twitter icons to post the link to your status and feed. Next to the icons is a link to the room URL you can copy and paste.

How do I Earn Badges?

Newbie: You signed up and are now a part of the Yowie Universe!
Live Viewer: You attended your first show!
Live Caller: One of your questions was answered during a live show.
Room Creator: You created a room!
Moderator: You were made a moderator in someone else’s chat room.
Beta User: You are one of the selected few to use our site before everyone else.

How Do I Earn Points?

Earn points when viewers in the chat room give your media a "thumbs up.’

General site questions:

How do I change my Password and user information?

Click 'View My Shows' and click on the 'Settings' tab. This will allow you to upload a photo as your user icon and update your email address, password, location and website. Click 'Save Settings' once you've finished updating.

In the same 'Settings' tab, connect to Twitter and Facebook in the 'My Friends' box. Once connected to Facebook, you'll be able to send invites to your online friends while you're hosting a live event. Simply click on the 'Facebook Friends' tab on the right side. Put your mouse over a friend's name and click 'Send Request to Chat.'

How do I get a Yowie T-shirt?

Use the 'Feedback' tab on the left rail of yowie.com to send us suggestions, your address and t-shirt size. We'll throw in some other goodies as well!

Technical issues:

Why won't my webcam connect?

- Make sure other video chat programs like Skype or iChat are not running.

- Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flashplayer: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer

- For Macs: Run the Google Voice and Video adapter uninstaller by following this path:

In Finder, click on your hard drive Icon > Library > Application Support > Google > GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app

- Try a different browser.

Why is the videostream choppy or freezing?

This is most likely due to a slow internet connection. Try plugging directly into your modem, or find a friend/coffee shop with faster internet!

Why is there a long delay between caller and host?

The delay is caused by a slow internet connection on either the host's or caller's end.
